Wasting Time

Don’t waste your time doing something you hate. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned over the past 12 years is that it is not worth your time to create a site about something you don’t like, just because “thats where the money is”. Example site topics include;  ringtones, credit cards, attorneys, doctors, loans, housing, drugs (the legal kinds), and anything else at the top on the top adsense keywords list.

Why am I advising against this if this is this is where the money is? Well it’s all about attention span. Running a “successful” website takes thousands of hours. Forget that get rich quick crap, the lunatic arbitrage schemes that do nothing more than funnels funds into the pockets of those who have masterminded them. While the internet is new the business models for sales and scammers are old hat tricks.

Important Question

Can you think of any topic or niche that you could see yourself spending thousands of hours working on? That’s where you will find the golden egg you are looking for. It’s that simple, really. Assuming you are willing to put in the time you will have some level of success.  What level is up to you, and the market. You can monetize any topic or niche. What you can’t do however is make yourself work on a topic you have no interest in for extended periods of time.

So if you are getting ready to launch headlong into a webiste niche because you think there is money in that area, then don’t waste your time. You’d be better off working on a site niche/topic that you enjoy and can work on for years to come. Because that’s what it takes years.
