PayPal Mandatory IRS Reporting in 2011

paypal logoHere is some news everyone is going to want to pay attention too. The IRS has in effect a rule that mandates everyone report 100% of earned paypal income as of 2011.

How are they going to properly in-force this? Easy..they are forcing banks to issue 1099-K’s to anyone receiving payment from PayPal or Ebay (same company owns both). Bummer right? The bank will summarize all payments and send the summary to you at the end of the year. This means that the IRS gets a copy too. :)

OK..so this raises 2 questions in my mind

  1. Are people going to switch payment processors in an attempt to avoid paying taxes. (I bet many are)
  2. Are people going to open bank accounts in other countries to avoid paying taxes. (Im guessing the IRS has no authority over non US banks)

While tax evasion is illegal, it is more common than you think. We suggest you form an LLC or S-Corporation of some sort. I would definitely go talk to an accountant if you make any substantial amount of money online.

UPDATES you must meet the following criteria, if you don’t don’t worry about this it will no effect you. (here r details at paypal)

  • Receive more than $20,000 in gross payment volume in a single year, AND
  • Receive 200 or more payments in a single year.

Here is a draft of the 2011 IRS 1099-K

Breaking Long Posts into Pages w/ WordPress

Breaking Long Posts into Pages

Breaking Long Posts into Pages

If you’ve ever seen an article online that seems to go on and on for ever, you can understand the need for the WordPress “<!–nextpage–>” Tag. It breaks long pages into multiple pages one the fly.

The command must be used under the “html editor” region of wordpress. If you don’t have wordpress, and just own a web page then you can obviously do this by hand. Just cut your page into 2 or more pieces and then link them together.

This nifty concept also means you get to serve more ads, and decrease your bounce rate. (the % of viewers that leave after just viewing one page).

Since adsense only allows you to display 3 ads per page, a long article on one page could only have 3 ads. That same article broken into 2 pages would yield ad space for 6 ads, broken into 3 pages 9 ads.

If you also serve up CPM ads, then this could be a boost to your cpm ad revenue as well.

So in summary webmasters using WordPress should use “<!–nextpage–>”
tag when wanting to split up long blog posts. This tag should be added in the html text editor region. If you ad it in the visual editor you’ll just end up with “<!–nextpage–>” being displayed on your page.

Best Selling Products on eBay

eBays Best Selling Products

eBays Best Selling Products

So what are the best selling products on eBay to date? This is an important question to ask. By finding out what sells best on eBay, we can then measure the profit margin, and then you have yourself a recipe for success. Profit margin + popularity = some good revenue.

Here are a few of the most sold and resold items from the online sells Juggernaut eBay.

  • iPod
  • P90x
  • Xbox 360
  • iPod Touch
  • iPhone 3G
  • Verizon Cell Phones
  • iPhone 4
  • PS3
  • Coach Handbags

Those are just a few of the most popular items on eBay in the last 30 days. Now I’m not the smartest person in the world but it sure.

looks like eBay is selling a hell of a lot of Apple products. The iPod, iPod Touch, iPhone 3g, iPhone 4, are all listed as top selling eBay items. Maybe this a trend, maybe a fad, or maybe this product range is a glimpse into the future.

So what now? Now that we know what item’s are most frequently sold and requested we want to figure out which products have a large enough profit margin to even mess with. If there is no profit margin, then there is no reason to even sell these items. I’m guessing you are trying to run a business not a charity right? lol.

Of course there are slew of items that are commonly sold, those items are also great to look at. Here are a few of those items.

  • Laptops
  • Sports Memorabilia
  • Designer Handbags
  • Game Systems (newer the better)
  • Vintage Engagement Rings
  • High End Watches
  • Collector Cars
